Founder and CEO
As Founder and CEO of Stowell & Associates, LLC, Tom serves as the lead consultant for many of the firm’s organizational engagements and as an advisor to individual clients. He also supervises and works closely with all other consultants on the team. His work spans close to twenty years where he has successfully served as an innovator, strategist, and trusted advisor to individuals, organizations, and teams. His experience spans many sector areas including higher education, professional associations, government, non-profits, K-12 education, and business.
He has also been recognized for his extensive knowledge of career development and transition throughout the lifespan and his expertise in developing programs and managing complex projects. He has launched new offices and operations and has developed a wide-range of training, workforce, and education programs in a variety of settings. He has also taken his keen sense of space and style and helped clients understand the impact of office space on productivity, employee engagement, and organizational culture. Believing that both work and life are inextricably linked, Tom’s unique work/life perspective helps his clients establish the environment, skills, resources, and connections that foster success.
He has served as a frequent invited presenter to a wide-ranging audience including educators, business professionals, government agencies, associations, and non-profit organizations on wide-ranging topics including systems design, employee engagement, career transition, recruitment, training and development, program implementation, and more.. In March 2014, Tom appeared as a featured guest on Al Jazeera America’s award winning show The Stream where he discussed the challenges and rewards of professional networking with panelists including Adam Grant.
Tom holds an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) Degree in Counseling from The George Washington University, and a Master of Arts in Education, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and Bachelor of Arts in Education from Johnson State College in Vermont. He also holds the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) Credential from the Center for Credentialing in Education and the Master Career Counselor designation from the National Career Development Association.
Tom is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Counseling Association where he was awarded the Carl D. Perkins Legislative Award, National Association of Colleges and Employers, and the National Career Development Association (NCDA) where he completed the leadership academy (2009-2010), was recipient of the NCDA Presidential Recognition Award (2010), and a recent past-Chair of the Government Relations Committee.
