Common Q&A:
Q: Do you work with people on job search documents if they aren’t already a career counseling or job search coaching client?
A: Yes, we are happy to work with you whether you are an existing client engaged in counseling or coaching or you are just seeking assistance with your documents.
Q: How does a critique work?
A: In most cases, we can work virtually on your critique. Clients are asked to submit their materials in either PDF or MSWord and our staff will provide written critiques/suggestions in return.
Q: What if I need someone to actually write or rewrite my materials. Do you do that?
A: Yes – with a caveat. We would much prefer to teach you how to write your resume so that you build this skill for the future. That said, some clients don’t have time or are too intimidated to take the lead. In these cases, we will be happy to develop your materials with substantial input from you.
Q: I definitely want someone to write my resume for me. What do you need from me?
A: First, we would ask that you send us any materials you may have used in the past. Next, we require clients to participate in a one-hour pre-writing phone call so that we can gather information about your past experiences, accomplishments, special skills, educational background, etc. Once we’ve developed a draft of your document, we will need to schedule a post-writing phone call to discuss our recommendations and gain additional clarity to ensure that the document is an accurate reflection of your work and experience. A few final tweaks, and you are ready to begin using your new materials.
Q: Do you guarantee that I’ll find a job with the materials that you’ve either edited or written?
A: While we are good at what we do (and have the client kudos to prove it), absolutely no one in this business should promise you that you’ll get a job as a result of any revised/new materials. Your new materials are just one part of a total package and therefore, we can’t make this guarantee.
